Send the right resources every time

Transferring patients between medical facilities can be one of the most inefficient and frustrating experiences for Emergency Communications Centers, Medical Facilities, and patients alike. Missing information at the point of dispatch can cause misallocation of resources – like sending Basic Life Support (BLS) when the patient needs the care of Advanced Life Support (ALS). This can cause delays not only in patient care but also in reimbursement from insurance companies.

The Medical Transfer Protocol brings much-needed efficiency to the patient transfer process. MTPS helps Emergency Dispatchers offer safe, efficient, and cost-effective patient transfers between facilities. The suite consists of three protocols:

  1. Protocol 45: Specialized Unscheduled Up-Care Transports: When a patient is transported to a higher, more acute level of care.
  2. Protocol 46: Scheduled Interfacility Transfers (Routine): When a patient is routinely transported to another facility with a similar level of care.
  3. Protocol 47: Mental Health Transfers: When a patient with a diagnosis or symptoms of mental illness is transported to a medical or support facility.

You’re in Control

The Medical Transfer Protocol Suite can be customized to suit your jurisdiction’s equipment, facilities, personnel, and more.

You Already Know How to Use It

Because MTPS is built into ProQA, Emergency Dispatchers using the software can confidently add up-care, routine, and medical health transfers to their repertoire.

Better Information at Every Patient Touchpoint

MTPS guides Emergency Dispatchers to gather the right information, then communicate it all to responders and providers. That way, everyone is on the same page and offering the best patient care possible.

The ability to enter the protocol number early in case entry helps dispatchers move quickly through call-taking, while the questions regarding a patient’s medication, equipment, and bariatric needs allow us to properly allocate resources.

These protocols are a great tool for EMS services that are responsible for 911 and non-emergency responses. We’re able to gather more relevant patient information since the patient is already being cared for in a medical setting. One of the biggest pluses is the ability for the agency to determine what logistical questions are relevant for them.

I’ve seen a huge improvement with the consistency of information between calltakers, better documentation on what type of service is needed (BLS, ALS, CCP, CCT), and in what mode (non-emergent or emergency). MTPS has also assisted with the second time billing cycle in validating why a certain type of service was sent based on the caller’s answers to the protocol questions.

Questions? We Have Answers.

How will this benefit my agency?

Medical Transfer Protocol streamlines your Emergency Dispatch process and facilitates better utilization of resources. Using MTPS allows your agency to obtain the information that is needed to maintain or enhance the patient’s treatment and care journey.

How will the Medical Transfer Protocol Suite alter my responses?

Using MTPS determinant codes assists agencies in sending the needed or right resources to each call. This allows agencies to keep resources available for the next call.

Will I get pushback from facilities I respond to?

MTPS employs a streamlined process. This will make sure facilities get the correct resources from the initial call, with education facilities will be able to see the advantages of using this suite.

Are the equipment, medications, and questions customizable?

Yes, the equipment and medications are customizable in multiple ways. The jurisdictionally approved questions can be turned on/off by Protocol, allowing agencies to ask a different set of questions for each of the three Protocols.

How long is the implementation process?

The implementation process is three to four months, depending upon your current environment. Priority Dispatch provides a well-versed team to assist with the implementation of the MTP suite.
